Gastronomy
Water plays a huge role in the taste of many of the products we eat and drink. The water’s minerals and special composition combine with the other ingredients in a chemical process that forms the basis for the taste that producers want for the product. Beer, coffee, tea, wine, whiskey and soft drinks are all dependent on water. The water helps to give the right flavor, but it is also the water that can cause something to not taste right. Good water gives the right taste, bad water gives the wrong taste.
You might have experienced being abroad and drinking exactly the same brand as in your own country: A particular coffee or tea brand, Coca Cola, or your favorite beer, but it just doesn’t taste like it does at home. In most cases, this is not because the product is made differently abroad. It is simply because the water in the beverage does not have the same composition as at home. It takes a very small change in the composition of the water to create a great taste difference in the finished product.
It is the same that applies to the water that you drink with food and wine. If the water does not match what you are drinking it with, it can ruin the taste. Conversely, the taste can be enhanced if you hit the right match.
